What is a caregiver?
Family Caregiver, Informal Caregiver, Unpaid Caregiver, Carer, Care Provider, Caretaker— they all belong to the same group! Simply put, anyone who provides unpaid care to a loved one is a caregiver.
This includes those caring for a parent who needs help around the house, a mother assisting her adult child, a spouse supporting a spouse, and everything in between.
Caregivers are a crucial part of the United States healthcare system. Approximately 53 million people nationwide—that’s 1 in 5 Americans—currently care for a loved one. Their efforts are rarely recognized, leading to a deficit in caregiver support and high rates in caregiver stress.
